A Kind Man

Synopsis

Miriam had married before Eve, even though she was younger. But when Eve met Tommy Carr she knew he was a kind man, she had been able to tell that after half an hour. Since then, there had never been a day when he hadn't shown her some kindness or spoken a kind word. But today is not a usual day. Eve is on her way with a sprig of plum blossom to the abandoned church across the meadow. As she lays down the flowers, four golden angels catch gold in the sun. Tommy did not come. He said nothing, but she knew that the sight of the grave and, later, of Jeannie Eliza on the headstone was unbearable to him. Eve and Tommy's story is one of family and loss, of an arduous life in a lost time and of the pulses and connections that bind sisters together -- and push them apart.
