Aboriginal Tasmanians

Synopsis

History of the Tasmanian Aborigines. The central argument is that the Tasmanian Aborigines did not die out in 1876 when Truganini died, or in any other period of Tasmania's history. This second edition updates the first edition by reviewing current debate about the Tasmanian Aborigines in archaeology and history; providing two new concluding chapters covering the period since the early 1980s and presenting an updated bibliography. After publishing the first edition of this book, Lyndall Ryan has expanded her research and teaching to include gender, race and class relations in colonial Australia. She is reader in women's studies at Flinders University.
