Field Guide Art Of Roger Tory Peterson: V. 1
Synopsis
An essential addition to any serious collection of wildlife art books - the most important books of American bird art published since Audubon over one hundred and fifty years ago. The field guide art of Roger Tory Peterson is considered the finest wildlife artwork of its kind ever painted and this magnificent two-volume set provides the collector with full-sized reproductions of 300 of Dr. Peterson's paintings. For his famous field guides, the paintings were reduced to a fifth of their original size and here the paintings can be seen in their full splendour and minute detail. The books include, a foreword by S. Dillon Ripley, former Secretary of the Smithsonian Institute, and an introductory essay by Dr. Peterson describing his life's work as an environmentalist and bird artist. One of the world's most famous naturalists, Roger Tory Peterson published his first field guide in 1934. He has been widely honoured for his work in the study of birds and has been one of the most influential popularises of ornithology. Regarded as the father of modern birdying, he is now eighty-four years old.
