Good Little Book For A Great Big Giggle

    09/11/2010

A review of Funny English appeared in The Canberra Times on 4 November 2010 by Lyn Mills. Here are some extracts from that review:

"Troy Simpson has a good eye for the written mistake. So good, in fact, he's found that his research made for a good little book for a great big giggle.

The National Library of Australia has published Funny English just in time for the Christmas buying spree as it's ideal for some who'll enjoy the howlers, the hilarious and humbling mistakes.

... [F]or a good laugh you can't go past what kids think they hear and then write. Did you think the Lord's Prayer was about Harold as in 'Harold be Thy Name' when you were trying to fit in at Sunday school?

... Sheridan's Mrs Malaprop, the doyenne of linguistic disaster, would get a good laugh as well as you out of Funny English."
