Lana Granger is a liar. She has told so many lies about where she comes from and who she is, that the truth seems like a nightmare she can't quite remember. But she knows one thing for certain: she needs a job. About to graduate from a small college in upstate New York, her trust fund is going to run out. Her mother's dying wish: that Lana do something meaningful, that she uses her life to help people.

Lana takes a job babysitting for a deeply troubled boy named Luke. Expelled from schools all over the country, and running circles around his beleaguered mother, Luke is accustomed to controlling the people in his life. He likes to play games. But, in Lana, he may have met his match. Or has Lana met hers?

When Lana's closest friend Beck goes missing, Lana finds herself lying again - to friends, to the police, to herself. The story about where Lana was the night Beck disappeared doesn't match with eyewitness accounts. Lana is willing to do almost anything to keep the truth - about that night, about everything - from coming out. Even so, it might not be enough to keep her secrets dead and buried. Someone else knows all about Lana's lies. And they are dying to tell.

This was my first time reading a Lisa Unger novel. 'In the Blood' is a chilling thriller that I just couldnt put down. It tells the story of Lana Granger who has a haunted past with many secrets that through numerous lies tries to keep buried. Her life becomes more complex when she gets a job babysitting a manipulative and highly intelligent 11 year old Luke and her best friend, Beck disappears. From here her secrets begin to unravel.

In the Blood is a complex psychological thriller that keeps you guessing until the end.

In The Blood by Lisa Unger was a very suspenseful novel, it kept me guessing for a long while, from the edge of my seat of course. I enjoyed it.

Lana Granger is a psychology student, with a particular interest in teenage psychopathic psychology, who has built herself a life based on lie upon lie. To help her dwindling trust fund along she takes a job babysitting a troubled teenage boy called Luke who both fascinates and terrifies her. When her best friend goes missing and Luke challenges her to a game, she knows her lies are at risk of being exposed and will do anything to stop it.

Lisa Unger is a master at the psychological thriller and her bestselling book Beautiful Lies was a New York Times bestseller. In The Blood may not quite get to that status but its definitely a great read for any thriller fan. Ungers ability to unravel the secrets within the plot is unique in its subtleness - the casual use of he instead of she within a sentence, them instead of him, the clues are so subtle that you think theyre editing mistakes. But once you pick up on where shes going you know it all the twist becomes quite obvious about halfway through the book, however that doesn't away any of the enjoyment of the last few pages. Entertaining and a great psychological thriller, In The Blood is a perfect summer read.
