This work was published to accompany the exhibition in Australia of more than 200 works from the collections of the Musee D'Orsay, Paris, the National Gallery of Australia, The Metropolitan Museum, New York, The Museum of Fine Arts, Gifu, and important private collections. Focusing on aspects of Parisian life at the end of the 19th century when all that was new, transcendent and influential emerged in and was drawn to that European centre - Art Nouveau and the search for the modern; romantic impressonism; drugs, anarchism and the Occult; fashion and the fashionable - this catalogue is illustrated in colour.
