In a varied collection, John Goodman casts his gaze wide, and while a few underlying themes emerge (such as war, family and transience) they are done from an intimate and personal perspective. These poems are full of a subtlety of nuance and a simple elegance which renders the work uniquely emotive and evocative. During the Korean War the author saw active service in the Far East as a Tank Commander in the Royal Armoured Corps. Retired from the Army he joined the family firm of Iron Founders Civil Engineers and is now retired in the country in Dorset with his wife and has eleven grandchildren to keep him amused.
