Synopsis

Books three and four of a sweeping ten-volume series that follows a single family through the twentieth-century. Each book is set against the background of a successive decade, and the historic events, inventions, and cultural milieu of the featured decade are woven into the fictional narrative.The Dixons, a black family fleeing the discrimination of the south, meet up with Rocco and with Nell Aldrich -- and the Dixon and Aldrich children manage to get into some fascinating entanglements. Major events of the decade, including the Sacco and Venzetti trial and the popularity of Babe Ruth, play a part in the narrative.
