Winner of the 2002 Victorian Premier's Award for Non-Fiction, 2002 Queensland Premier's Award for Non-Fiction, and short-listed for the 2003 National Biography Award. Based on family papers, letters, diaries and interviews. Traces the emergence of the family's artistic traditions, which have included painters, potters, sculptors, architects, writers and musicians, including painter Penleigh Boyd, novelist Martin Boyd and painter Arthur Boyd. Investigates the careers and influences that have shaped the various family members' lives. Includes colour and black-and-white photos, notes, family tree, bibliography and index. Author is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Humanities and has previously written 'Georgiana: A Biography of Georgiana McCrae' and 'Martin Boyd: A Life'.
