**spoiler alert** I don’t even know what to say about this book. My first non-fiction of the challenge and my first non-fiction I’ve ever read by choice if memory serves me right.

I know few of you will know what a ‘Nerdfighter’ is, let alone be one. And I know that fewer of you still, if any, will know who Esther Grace Earl is.

Esther was just your average American teenage girl apart from one factor – at 12 she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer which would ultimately claim her weeks after her 16th birthday. This is her story from diagnosis up until present day where she lives on through her loved ones told through her diary entries, her blogs and YouTube videos, and letters from her family and friends.

It particularly hit home for me because she was not even 2 months younger than me. To think that my problems at 16 were so petty and trivial compared to Esther’s problems… it blows my mind. And to think that she’d be turning 20 this year just like me, but instead is gone…
I cried most of the time I read this book. But I don’t think anything has ever filled me so full of admiration and love and torn me apart at the same time.

John Green’s ‘The Fault in our Stars’ has been dedicated to Esther.
