Great Romantic Suspense
09/02/2011
Wings of Fear was released last year as Border Watch.
One of the very few romantic suspense books youre going to find thats set in Australia, Wings of Fear is set in Far North Queensland.
Morgan Pentland is a pilot for Border Watch. They work with Customs and the Navy to protect Australias borders. She doesnt realise it, but the reason Rafe Daniels a former SAS soldier working for Customs is now on Morgan's team is because shes under investigation. Somebodys been leaking details to a terrorist organisation.
Things change when their plane is shot down in the remote north of the country, and they know they have a very short space of time before a terrorist attack on Australian soil. Of course, Morgan and Rafe get together, but she still doesnt know he was investigating her.
Wings of Fear is made all the more real by the fact the author knows her stuff. Having a protagonist who is a pilot adds a lot of originality and makes for some nail-biting action, and I really appreciated the authors in-depth knowledge of it all. It made the story seem realistic.
All of the characters were well-rounded and multi-layered, and there was just enough romance to complement the plot. Additionally there were a few shocking twists and some surprises I honestly didnt see coming, making for a sometimes emotional read.
Youngs books capture Australia as it really is something extremely rare in romantic fiction. The people, the location and the culture make these stories unique. As someone who has read hundreds of suspense stories, it makes them stand out.
The story of Lauren the other pilot in the crash is told in Shattered Sky.- LikeBe the first to like this review
