I, Michael Bennett is the 5th novel in the Michael Bennett series by James Patterson and is co-written with Michael Ledwidge. Michael Bennett, Pattersons Irish New York cop with ten kids, a grandfather priest and a nanny, loses an old friend when the takedown of a Mexican drug cartel boss doesnt go quite as planned. A year on, the trial is marked by the murder of a judge, intimidation of witnesses, murder of cops, a dramatic courtroom escape and an even more dramatic apprehension attempt. As well as the usual banter with the kids and Uncle Seamus, there is a little sexual tension with Mary Catherine and with federal prosecutor, Tara McLellan, plenty of gunplay, assassins galore, a forest fire, drug smuggling, slavery, and corrupt police and officials. Bennetts family vacation at an isolated lake cabin whilst under threat from the drug cartel boss seems a little nave, but generally the novel, with Pattersons trademark short chapters, is fast moving: an easy read with a cliff-hanger ending.
