From Terry Goodkind, author of the Sword of Truth series, comes a sweeping new novel of Richard Rahl, Kahlan Amnell, and their world. From the far reaches of the D'Haran Empire, Bishop Hannis Arc and the ancient Emperor Sulachan lead a vast horde of Shun-Tuk and other depraved "half-people" into the Empire's heart, raising an army of the dead in order to threaten the world of the living. Meanwhile, far from home, Richard Rahl and Kahlan Amnell must defend themselves and their followers from a series of terrifying threats, despite a magical sickness that depletes their strength and which, if not cured, will take their lives...sooner rather than later.

Terry Goodkind

Terry Goodkind was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, where he also attended art school, one of his many interests on the way to becoming a writer.

Besides a career in wildlife art, he has been a cabinet maker, violin maker, and he has done restoration work on rare and exotic artifacts from around the world - each with its own story to tell, he says.

In 1983 Goodkind moved to the forested mountains he loves. There, in the woods near the ocean, he built the house where he and his wife, Jeri, live, and came at last to tell his own stories. He died in September 2020 at the age of 72.

I did enjoy this book although it was a little bit slow to begin with Kahlan & Richard are fighting to stay alive after being infected by Jit the hedge maid if you have been reading the series you will know who Jit was. At the same time they are trying to save the D'haran people from disaster from Sulachan who is marching his army of Yun Chuk to the capital and Bishop Arc who is in league with Sulachan, although it soon becomes apparent they have very different agendas. Richard also suffers a severe personal blow which devastates him. The series cannot end here I trust there is another book in situe but as always Terry leaves you in suspense with just enough titillating information to keep you waiting for the next book great read as ever I look forward to the next installment.
