Kate Mildenhall

Kate Mildenhall is a writer and teacher. Her debut novel, Skylarking, was named in Readings Top Ten Fiction Books of 2016 and longlisted for Best Debut Fiction in The Indie Book Awards 2017 and the 2017 Voss Literary Prize.

Kate teaches creative writing to young writers and co-hosts The First Time, a podcast about the first time you publish a book. The Mother Fault is her second novel. Kate lives with her partner and two daughters in Hurstbridge, Victoria.

Skylarking is a new classic of Australian story-telling. Two kindred spirits on the cusp of adulthood in a paradise of their own with change looming over them. Every innocent moment threatens to tear them apart. Kate is the ideal heroine and you’ll find it difficult not to fall in love with her. The author places her is a vivid microcosm of colonial life which is unavoidably and forgivably nostalgic.

Mildenhall’s debut is a beautiful coming-of-age novel and it’s made me very excited to see what else she has in stall for us.
