I’m a huge Matthew Reilly fan, in fact you could probably say he is my favourite author. So when I picked up his latest book ‘The Great Zoo of China’ I had high expectations and suffice to say; I wasn’t disappointed. The novel is a great example of Reilly’s ability to write big action on a humongous scale.

The novel follows reptilian expert ‘CJ’ Cameron as she is given a tour of China’s ‘Disneyland’; The Great ‘Dragon’ Zoo. The monumental tourist attraction that is set to sky-rocket China to the greatest cultural nation in the world and beat America at its own game. Now, I’m sure nothing can go wrong with a valley of trapped, angry, jumbo-jet sized dragons, can it?

Yes, the stage is set for a non-stop action event, except for one thing; it takes a while for the non-stop action to actually start, but once you get past the initial set-up of 150 pages or so you’ll be turning the pages faster, then well, a flying dragon. The thing I love most about this book in particular is that the action just keeps escalating; if you are half through this book and you think it is already pretty good, I can tell you… it gets better. Although similarities between this book and ‘Jurassic Park’ can be made, it is still a unique and original concept in its own right with plenty of thrills, epic writing skills and awesome dragon kills to keep you glued to your seat for hours.
