Synopsis

Self-healing guru Dr. Andrew Weil puts his name on this collection of classical pieces composed by Schubert, Schumann, Chopin, Satie, Beethoven, and others, assembled to achieve the state of "deep calm" noted in the title. Of course, Weil himself does not actually play on the tracks, which are performed by the Apollo Chamber Ensemble, and arranged and produced by Joshua Leeds. Nor does he, as he sometimes does on his records, provide any commentary on the disc to accompany the sounds. That might disturb the mood, which does indeed induce calm by presenting slow tempos and usually one to three instruments playing the stately classical works. ~ William Ruhlmann
