Synopsis

Kaori Muraji is an accomplished classical guitarist (and one signed to international release no less -- something of a rarity), and her Transformations album takes on classic popular tunes, but arranged for a classical guitar approach. Courtesy in large part to Toru Takemitsu, the arrangements allow Muraji to showcase a much more classical touch on the songs than is normally heard. The Beatles, Irish folk songs, and Mikis Theodorakis all get a turn in the spotlight, and are all given a full re-imagining with a delicate, complex touch from Muraji. ~ Adam Greenberg
