Peculiar indeed!

I love the idea behind this book - the author has taken a random selection of salvaged vintage photographs and woven them into a story about a boy who finds that fairy tales (and nightmares) can come true when he retraces back through his grandfather's peculiar life. It being hardcover adds to the 'vintage' feel and it just makes me want to scour opshops for abandoned photos to write my own story about.

Hail the King

Its an interesting journey with the boy Hal who, though he was the 'spare' and his father had no time for him, was convinced that he would be king in his older brother's place. Fast forward a few years to a young king headstrong and bulletproof and with dreams of sons and an empire. Then finally to the old man with his dreams, health and sanity in ruins.
One of the best books I've read in 2011 and though its fiction, its very believable and sent me back to the history books to read some more about Tudor times.- LikeBe the first to like this review
