about eBooks
An eBook is an electronic or digital version of a printed book. eBooks can be read on computers, eReading devices or smartphones. An ePub (electronic publication) is a free and open eBook standard for “reflowable” content, meaning that the text display can be optimized depending on the device or hardware being used. You can read ePub formatted books on your computer, on many mobile devices, such as iPhone and BlackBerry, and on select eReaders such as the Kobo Reader.

- More about downloading an eBook +
-
Once you have added an eBook to your library it is yours. It is important that you choose carefully, as these files cannot be returned like physical products can.
Free eBooks you select will be added to your 'My eLibrary' instantly and purchased eBooks will be added once you complete the transaction process. The speed with which you can download your eBook will depend on the device you are downloading to, your internet connection and the size of the file. However, you should be able to access your digital book in under 10 minutes.
You can download to, and read your eBooks on, multiple devices, including your computer, select smartphones and various types of eReaders. To do this you will need to download the appropriate app for your device which can be found on our Application page.
Some eBooks will only work on some devices but eBooks using Reader®Mobile Technology from Adobe Systems Inc. can be shared with up to 6 devices authorised to the same account. Please visit: Adobe Reader®Mobile Technology FAQs for more about using Adobe Digital Editions.

- More about printing and copying eBooks +
-
Depending on their file format, it may be technically possible to print and copy some eBooks. However, even digital forms of books are subject to copyright laws. In addition to legal considerations, eBooks are environmentally friendly in digital form, to print them out may be waste of resources. Should you require something printed, you may achieve a better finished product with minimal time, effort and resources by purchasing the book in its physical form rather than trying to print an eBook.

To read your A&R eBooks on your Apple iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch, please note that you will need the free A&R eReading app for these platforms.
Please be aware that the iBooks app on iPads and iPhones will only allow you to download eBooks purchased in the Apple iBookstore. Similarly other eBook retailers have their own apps to read eBooks purchased from their stores.
- Minimum requirements for PC, Mac & iPad +
-
To read eBooks purchased from Angus & Robertson on your PC, Mac or iPad, you will need to download and install the appropriate application PC, Mac & iPad apps page. Please check the minimum system requirements to run these applications. Mac users will need to run Mac OS 10.5 or a more recent operating system. PC users will need Windows XP (with Service Pack 3 installed) or a more recent operating system.
Generally, meeting these minumum requirements is a simple as an update from Apple (for Mac) or Microsoft (for Windows).
If you have an older system you will still be able to purchase eBooks via the website without using an app but will need to use an alternative to the app to download and read your eBooks such as Adobe Digital Editions.

my eLibrary
To access eBooks you have purchased on this site you must have a Angus & Robertson account. When you login to your account you will find your eBooks in your personal library ('My eLibrary').
If you are using the website, you will see a 'My eLibrary' link at the top of the page near the checkout when you login to your account. If you are using an app, your library will display when you load it up.
- More about your eLibrary +
-
Your library of books is stored elsewhere and only a virtual version is passed to your app when you access it. If you sign out of the app, your library information is maintained at the source but the virtual copy on your app is lost. The virtual copy of your library will need to be reloaded every time you sign in, which can be quite time consuming if you have a lot of books in your library. Our recommendation is that you do not sign out of the app.

eInk Technology and eReading Devices
e-Ink Technology means that the screen of an eReading device looks like paper and is similar to reading a paper page so there is none of the eyestrain or headaches commonly associated with reading off a backlit screen like a computer monitor. The Kobo eReaders and the Reader by Sony are eReading devices which use eInk technology.
- Interrupted download to your eReading device +
-
If your download is interrupted, you will not need to repurchase your book but you must begin the download from your 'My eLibrary' again.
