Benefits of Owning an A&R Franchise
Established in 1886, Angus & Robertson has the distinction of now being Australia’s largest bookseller. The company grew steadily from a base in Sydney and, since 1982, has more than doubled the number of stores, currently standing at 185 combined company & franchise. Our national support office is located in Melbourne, however we have support office personnel servicing company and franchise stores right across the country.
Borders Bookstores Asia Pacific and Whitcoulls in New Zealand, are both incorporated with Angus & Robertson. This means added benefits to our stores, with system integration, sharing information and, of course, additional buying power.
Calendar Club is part of Angus & Robertson and as such, the opportunity exists to run retail sites only during Christmas, is exclusively with us.
Casual Leasing is an effective way of improving your business throughout the year. We have a warehouse & team based in NSW that can provide assistance when using this effective business tool.

Our Franchise, Training & Operations teams will work closely with you throughout the initial stages of set up and commencement in your new store.
Ongoing Support and Training
The principal point of contact for Franchise Owners is the Group Manager. The Group Manager is a member of the Operations Team and is there to support you with all day to day operational questions. This means that Franchise Owners have regular scheduled visits, consultation from people experienced in the book industry along with assistance in analysis of business financials.
We also have ongoing Training modules and workshops that Franchise Owners will have the opportunity to participate in throughout the year.
In addition to the A&R Support Office structure, we also have our own elected Franchise Owners committee called ARFRANC. This committee is made up of Franchise Partners, as a representation of the entire Franchise Group. ARFRANC meetings are held quarterly with Support Office and annually to elect the ARFRANC committee.
Franchise Conference
This annual event is eagerly anticipated and all franchise owners are required to attend. This is a combined event with Company stores and is usually held over 3 days. The conference is a combination of presentations and workshops held by company personnel as well as industry professionals. Plans and direction for the future are laid out and product, retail management and marketing information is communicated. It also provides franchisees with an opportunity to catch up with one another, exchanging ideas and discussing their individual businesses.
