Being A Franchise Owner

Our Franchise Owners enjoy the benefits and freedom of operating their own business, under the guidance of our retail system, with the security of the Angus & Robertson experience and market presence behind them. Franchise Owners are motivated, enthusiastic, possess business acumen, dedicated and are prepared to work hard for their rewards. They must also be committed to maintaining the standards of customer service and presentation required in all Angus & Robertson stores

We require that our Franchise Owners are owner-operators, who can devote the majority of their time, to their Angus & Robertson business. Background in the retail industry or similar would be preferred, sound business acumen and the ability to fund and secure start up capital from personal equity. Most importantly about buying into a Franchise, our Franchise Owners must be willing to follow the guidelines of the franchisor and Angus & Robertson business format. Following a successful format enables each Franchise Owner to maintain consistent store standards, as well as allowing them time to devote attention to creativity and initiative in Marketing, Promotions, Planning and growing the business. At the same time a Franchisor requires standardisation across all stores, as this will reassure our customers that they are receiving the full Angus & Robertson experience, which ever store they visit.

Responsibilities as a Franchise Owner
Angus & Robertson Franchise Owners are responsible for every aspect of the operation of their stores. This includes staff recruitment and training, merchandising, stock purchasing and stock management, payment of supplier accounts and all accounting and financial record keeping functions. Policies and Procedures for these and many other aspects of the franchisor, are issued by Angus & Robertson and further training and assistance is always available. All Franchise Partners are bound by the terms and conditions as outlined in the Franchise Agreement.

For those not familiar with the book industry, the number of new titles to choose from can be quite daunting. Its quite common for publishers to present over 1000 new books a month. This can be in the form of telesales, personal contact through sales reps, e-mailed stock lists. Education in this process is provided as part of the Training & Induction program.

The book industry, like many other retailers, relies heavily on the Christmas trade. This means that a large percentage of our sales, and our positive cash flow comes from the Christmas season. Franchisees must be prepared for the increase in stock required to meet Christmas demand and for the subsequent bills that must be paid. Successful cash flow management is one of the key components of running a successful Angus & Robertson franchise.
