Getting the 'Decryption failed, try resyncing your library' message?

You will need to perform a factory reset of your Kobo and then reinstall the desktop app. The steps to do this follow.

To do a factory reset
On your Kobo WiFi, press 'MENU'. Select 'SETTINGS' from the list using the D-Pad. On the 'Settings' screen that appears, select 'ADVANCED' by moving the D-Pad to the right. Select 'RESET DEVICE NOW' Your Kobo will now be restored to factory settings. Ensure that you set the correct date and time after the factory reset procedure as it is important for your bookmarking.

How to reinstall the desktop app on a PC
If you are using a Windows-based PC you will need to uninstall the old version of the desktop app and then restart your computer prior to installing the newer version. Follow the steps below to do this:



  1. Click on the windows symbol (Windows 7 / Windows Vista)/ START (Windows XP) in the lower-left corner of the screen.

  2. Select 'Control Panel' from the right-column of the window that appears.

  3. Click on 'Programs and Features' (Windows 7 / Windows Vista) or 'Add/ Remove Program' (Windows XP). The list of programs on your computer will now populate please select 'Borders' and then select 'uninstall'

  4. Restart your computer. This will stop any processes that may still be running in the background from interfering with the steps that follow.

  5. After your computer has restarted, open your Internet browser and download the latest version of the desktop app for PC here

  6. When the file has downloaded you will need to install it and then open the app and sign-in to your account.

  7. You will notice that the new app is much faster than the old version, one of the many improvements that have been made. 8) Connect your Kobo and click on 'SYNC'.


How to reinstall the desktop app on a Mac
To Uninstall and Reload the Desktop App, follow the instructions below.

Open Finder. In Finder, click on 'Applications' and scroll through the programs listed until you find the Angus & Robertson App. Alternatively, search for the App using the search box within Finder. To delete the Angus & Robertson app, simply right-click on the app and select Delete or drag and drop the App into the Trash. Download the latest version of the desktop app for Mac here
