Drawing from a wide range of disciplines, the author integrates logic, philosophy, linguistics, and computer science into this study of the history and philosophy of knowledge and its various technical models and implementations. Three central chapters of the book (Chapters 2, 3, and 4) are devoted to logic, ontology and computation. Because of the interdisciplinary nature of the subject, the author includes a range of information on philosophy and linguistics, making the text self-contained. Each new idea is defined when first mentioned, and all the formalism is developed in the body of the text or summarized in an appendix.
