The worldwide championing of the privatisation concept has led many governments to look for new ways of identifying and funding their infrastructure needs. The Build Operate/Own Transfer arrangement for infrastructure procurement has subsequently evolved, which, it is said, provides a 'win-win' scenario for all involved. Privatized infrastructure: The BOT approach explains how, where and why the BOT concept evolved and to highlight the possible pitfalls as well as the potential windfalls. Offering much more than just a review of the privatization phenomenon, the book redraws the global infrastructure procurement landscape and presents a new perspective on old problems. Taking a perceptive look at what the future holds. Privatized infrastructure: the BOT approach reflects on the rebirth of an old and proven model for the private construction of public works, the increasing need to upgrade and expand such works, and the experience of how to put this model to work.
Illustrated throughout with case studies of BOT projects worldwide, the book examines project finance, contractual legalities, risk and costing regimes, and gives an overview of how and why construction and finance have joined forces to provide constricted governments with infrastructure. It examines the essential services that underpin society - the provision of electricity, gas, water, sewage disposal, telecommunications and transport infrastructure.
