When we think about the "politics of AIDS", we ordinarily think about debates over prevention or treatment projects, or about more controversial topics such as quarantine or tatooing for HIV-infected people. We perhaps forget that we also must look to the politics between individuals to prevent future HIV transmission and inequitable treatments of individuals living with HIV or AIDS. This book draws on communication, public health, psychology and theories from additional related disciplines to illuminate issues involved with communication, politics and HIV/AIDS around the globe. This book also examines our past efforts to prevent infection and to provide treatment, and the multiple barriers to such actions, so we can continue to refine our research and practice. Divided into seven parts, the book's introductory chapters explain this comprehensive approach to politics and how it is involved in the analysis and practice of HIV/AIDS research.
Chapters in additional sections analyze HIV/AIDS issues in the policy process, individuals' perceptions and their HIV risk behaviours, people's perceptions of self and how they prevent transmission or whether they seek HIV/AIDS treatment, mass media content, HIV/AIDS programme content and operation, and future suggestions for research and practice.
