This is a double biography of the two Venetian painters Zoran Music and his wife Ida Barbarigo, from their first meeting in 1944 in Trieste until 2005, when Music died in Venice. Over 200 images (almost all unpublished) and personal narration of Ida Barbarigo lead the reader through the most important moments of their lives: the first meeting, the war, the wedding, their life in Venice and then in Paris, illustrating their private moments as well as their artistic evolution and interconnection. Zoran Music began his career with extensive travels in 1934, before settling in Venice in 1940. Music was deported to Dachau in 1943 where he frantically sketched the life in camp under extremely difficult circumstances. After his liberation in 1945 Music returned to Venice where he won the first prize at the Bienniale in 1950. Other prizes followed in 1951 and 1952 when Music was awarded the Prix de Paris. During the 50's he moved to Paris, although keeping his studio in Venice, and exhibiting again at the Biennale in 1956 and 1960 (the artist was awarded the great prize for his graphic work and the UNESCO prize). Music's works have been honoured in numerous international exhibitions, such as the large retrospective exhibition at the Grand Palais in Paris in 1955, and belong to major museums and private art collections. 130 colour & 100 b/w illustrations
