A LEGACY OF WORDS is Michael Alty's collection of contemporary poems ranging from pathos to comedy interspersed with those describing the antics and exploits of a number of colourful characters:
My Mate Harry
My mate Harry he had this dream
To buy a Russian submarine
To tow it into Tilbury Dock
And serve hot breakfasts around the clock
Hot cups of tea and sticky buns
They could go on deck and play with the guns
With rounds of toast eggs and bacon
You can even have your photograph taken
At the Captains Table he had this ploy
To give everyone a cuddly toy
On top of the Tower Harry would shout
"McDonalds eat your heart out"
The Clown
When the Circus came to town
We were entertained by a Clown
With a big red nose and wearing a frown
He was the star when the circus came to town
His tears were controlled but they could not stop
Falling on the ground of the 'Big Top'
The audience laughed when he fell about inside the sawdust ring
Every day he does the same old thing
To make people happy for a while
In his own make-believe style
And when the show has ended
For him there is always tomorrow
To continue with his sorrow
