My grandmother Bertha Mulvihill Noon loved adventure. At age 19, she left her native Ireland to join relatives in Providence, Rhode Island. In 1911, she returned to Ireland for a few months. Her trip back to the U.S. was on the RMS Titanic. Late on Sunday night, April 14, 1912, she awoke with a jolt that nearly knocked her out of her bunk. A long vibration knocked the glass off her night stand and the engines went silent. This story of Nana Noon, as we called her, chronicles her survival during and after the tragic sinking of the ship. Despite injuries from jumping into a lifeboat and witnessing the loss of so many other passengers, she persevered. But painful memories remained. Later that year, she and her fiancé married. To date, there have been 27 descendants. Photos are included in this book. Nana Noon did not look for nor relish interviews about her ordeal. Yet her story has been told in bits and pieces in newspapers, books, and movies. Finally, her own story is written for all to read and learn from. Book jacket.
