An English translation of 100 quatrains by Yuan Mei consists of 102 English translations of five-character quatrains, mainly involving Yuan Mei's personal life experiences, such as his tours and emotions. Yuan Mei (1716-1798) was a poet, essayist, literary critic and foodie of the Qing Dynasty. He was good at writing poetry and prose. Because Yuan Mei insisted that aesthetic creation of poetry and prose should express the spirit and personality of the poet, or his true emotions and feelings in his personal experiences, two translators think it necessary to translate these quatrains into English for Western readers to understand the social system, social etiquette and customs of 16th century China.
