Excerpt from Antichita d'Albano e di Castel Gandolfo Per conciliare un detto con l' altro bifognerebbe fupporre, che il monte folle fiato fortificato dopo che v'erano fiati i Galli. E prima perche non lo era? Che a que' tempi, dice il P. Volpi, altezza e la d1fiicolfli di falirvi erano piu che bajianti a tener lontano i nemici. Ma perche al tempo de' Galli, e di tanto prima i Latini, come gli Etrulehi, in tante altre parti, e luoghi cosi alti e lcofceli avevano fortificazioni, e muraglie fatte come quelle del monte Albano? Perche altrove, come in quello monte, non ballavano le balze, e le altezze? La contraddizione del P. Volpi lembra manilella; e quel ch'e piu la fua dimenticanza che non tanto quei di dopo l'incurlione de' Galli quanto quei di prima, erano i tempi delle fortificazioni le piu liupende.
