This is the paperback edition of the first of Carcanet's monumental, definitive two-volume edition of Williams' "Collected Poems", including all his verse apart from his major long poem "Paterson", also available from Carcanet. Thom Gunn described this volume as 'an ideal edition'. The poems are printed in the order of their original publication, starting with "The Tempers" (1913) and ending with "Poems 1936-1939". American poet William Carlos Williams (1883–1963) is closely associated with modernism and imagism.

A pediatrician and general practitioner with a degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, he won the first National Book Award for Poetry with Patterson.
