Certainly not, Major. I Spoke of moral, not geo graphical distance. We live among the Natives, jostle them, talk to them, depend on them for every breath we draw. But the whole world of Native thought, life, character is hidden from us and time, spent as most of us spend it, don't enlighten us. Six months lived with Natives gives a man at least as good a right to guess what they are thinking as sixteen years lived alongside of them; and the guess - is a guess, after all.
