You'd think, now that she's off the hook for murder, that Alison, an English professor at a cushy college campus just north of chaotic New York City, would be able to relax. But how can she, with a wedding in the works? A Ph.D can only go so far...
The recently-divorced Alison couldn't be happier for her best friend, the bride Max. The problem is with the groom. Namely, his best man: the stunningly handsome yet technically married NYPD homicide detective Bobby Crawford. Alison just can't stop day-dreaming about him--until a new nightmare unfolds.

Alison's ex-husband has just turned up dead. And now that's she's being dragged into another murder investigation--his time, involving the Mob-boss parent of a student--Bobby might be the only man she can trust with her life. But will he ever make Alison his wife? With a killer on the loose, the pursuit of happiness may just have to wait...

This book is hilarious. Allison's pithy off side commentary throughout the book really gave me a chuckle and it feels like she's sitting in a cafe with you, telling this story over a cup of coffee.

I only wish that there was more of Kevin the priest, although maybe I missed out on all the priest jokes in the first book (read them out of order...again....) but I liked that he was this gossip hungry reverend who was lending an ear when she needed it most. Max was also someone who felt a little off key in this book, her presence didn't add anything and there was nothing particularly redeeming about their friendship. She wasn't a very good partner in crime and you can forgive self involved characters when they hustle for your favourites but she just wasn't working for me.

The red herrings (both in Allisons dating and crime fighting story lines) were really well thought out and gave the reader something to think about, and I like that there weren't too many, Maggie focused on one or two possibilities and fleshed out the whys and why nots, without going over the top.

The gangland mafia man, Peter was about as charming as you can get for someone who repeatedly breaks into your home, kidnaps and you and threatens you. I enjoyed his dialogue with Allison.

Finally you've got Bobby (ha!) the policeman. In my mind I imagined him as a Jack Reacher type (not the Tom Cruise, movie type mind you, the novel description) and that did me just fine, thank you!
