The book originated out of a competition between her, her husband Percy, and Lord Byron; to see who writes the best horror story. She won the competition, thereby bringing into the world one of its most memorable fictional characters and stories. The story begins with a fictional correspondence between Captain Robert Walton and his sister, Margaret Walton Saville. He tells her about his expedition to the North Pole, where he meets Dr Victor Frankenstein. This is one of the first versions of the story and is greatly recommended for everyone.
