Kenneth Oppel

Kenneth Oppel is the author of numerous books for young readers. His award-winning Silverwing trilogy has sold over a million copies worldwide, and been adapted as an animated TV series and stage play.

Airborn was winner of a Michael L Printz Honor Book Award, and the Canadian Governor General's Award for Children's Literature; its sequel, Skybreaker, was a New York Times bestseller and was named Children's Novel of the Year by the London Times.

He is also the author of Half Brother, This Dark Endeavor, The Boundless, and The Nest, winner of the CLA Book of the Year for Children.

His latest book is the YA novel EVERY HIDDEN THING. Born on Vancouver Island, Oppel has lived in Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, England, Ireland, and now lives in Toronto with his wife and children.

Rick Riordan

Rick Riordan is a teacher and a writer, and has won many awards for his mystery novels for adults.

He says that the idea for Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief first came to him while he was teaching Greek mythology at middle school in San Francisco.

But rumour has it that Camp Half Blood actually exists, and Rick spends his summers there recording the adventures of young demigods. Some believe that, to avoid a mass panic among the mortal population, he was forced to swear on the River Styx to present Percy Jackson's story as fiction.

Rick lives in Texas (apart from his summers on Half Blood Hill) with his wife and two sons.

Rebecca Stead

Rebecca Stead is the author of four books for children including the Newbery Award winner When You Reach Me. Rebecca lives in New York.

Tom Angleberger

Tom Anglebergeris the bestselling author of many books for children, including the beloved Origami Yoda series, the Qwikpick Papers series, and the Inspector Flytrap series. He lives in Virginia.

Shaun Tan

Shaun Tan grew up in the northern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia. In school he became known as the 'good drawer' which partly compensated for always being the shortest kid in every class.

He graduated from the University of WA in 1995 with joint honours in Fine Arts and English Literature, and currently works as an artist and author in Melbourne.

Shaun began drawing and painting images for science fiction and horror stories in small-press magazines as a teenager, and has since become best known for illustrated books that deal with social, political and historical subjects through surreal, dream-like imagery.

The Rabbits, The Red Tree, Tales from Outer Suburbia, Rules of Summer and the acclaimed wordless novel The Arrival have been widely translated and enjoyed by readers of all ages.

Shaun has also worked as a theatre designer, a concept artist for animated films including Pixar's WALL-E, and directed the Academy Award-winning short film The Lost Thing with Passion Pictures Australia. In 2011 he received the presitgious Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, honouring his contribution to international children's literature.

Neal Shusterman

Neal Shusterman is an award-winning author whose books include the New York Times bestselling Unwind series and Challenger Deep, which won a National Book Award. He also writes screenplays for film and television, for shows such as Goosebumps and Animorphs. He lives in Southern California with his four children.

Greg Ruth

Greg Ruth is a New York Times bestselling author and illustrator of The Lost Boy, and illustrator for Freaks of the Heartland and Conan comics, among others.

He lives in Western Massachusetts.
