She answered the Emperor's call.

She arrived with her arts, her wits, and her only friend.

In victory, her world has turned to ash.

After rocking the cosmos with her deathly debut, Tamsyn Muir continues the story of the penumbral Ninth House in Harrow the Ninth, a mind-twisting puzzle box of mystery, murder, magic, and mayhem. Nothing is as it seems in the halls of the Emperor, and the fate of the galaxy rests on one woman's shoulders.

Harrowhark's health is failing, her magic refuses to cooperate, her sword makes her throw up, and even her mind threatens to betray her. What's worse, someone is trying to kill her. And she has to wonder: if they succeeded, would the universe be better off?

Harrow the Ninth was absolutely nothing like what I expected at all. It’s extremely different from Gideon, but in the best way possible. While Gideon was a bunch of idiots in a haunted gothic space castle trying to solve a murder and find the answer for immortality, Harrow is well, harrowing. Alternating between Harrow’s present as a Lyctor and her memories of Canaan House, we see Harrow put through the emotional wringer as she copes with survivors guilt, trauma and the shocking reality of Lyctor hood. Same with Gideon, Harrow is littered with puns, memes, and jokes right in the middle of a serious conversation that will leave you screaming.

There’s so much to unpack with Harrow I could read it 5 times over and still find things I missed before. Possibly one of my favourite series of 2020. I am unsure how I will survive a year until book 3 comes out. Highly recommend the audiobook. As a side note, the title of book 3 is a bit of a spoiler so don’t look it up if you don’t like spoilers.
