Cal has been undercover on Shadow Island investigating the secrets hidden beneath the surface of this would-be tropical paradise. Evading search parties while being spied on by robotic pythons, planning rescue missions, being chased through the forest and sneaking through hidden tunnel systems ...it's now just an average day for Cal. Trapped in the leader's office, how can Cal evade capture and continue his double-act with his twin brother, Ryan? As his enemies increase and the dangers multiply at every turn, at least he knows he can count on SI-6-or can he? The clock is ticking. Any second could be his last.

Hunted Conspiracy 365 Black Ops is the sixteenth book in the Conspiracy 365 series by Australian author Gabrielle Lord, and the second in the Black Ops trilogy. Cal manages a surprise escape from certain discovery in the resort managers office, and things continue in an often fantastic, occasionally unbelievable and usually unimaginable manner from then on: it is easy to see how these books appeal to youth readers. This instalment has tunnels under graves, military equipment, mining machinery, and an underground laboratory with strange creatures, a set of rucksacks with military rations, passports and sealed envelopes of instructions. Cal is plagued by intermittent contact with SI-6, as well as search parties, a text message riddle, cryptic files, the threat of exposure and, all the while, the islands volcano rumbles ominously in the background. The middle of this book is somewhat slow-moving and repetitive, but the action hots up at the end for another cliff-hanger climax. Some editions feature a lenticular panel giving the cover a 3D look. In keeping with the countdown theme, the pages run in reverse order and the chapter headings count down the days remaining. Cal and Ryan again feature in this book, with Boges and Winter giving support off-island. It will be interesting to see how al the loose ends are resolved in Black-Ops #3, Endgame.
