A complete 5-10A mathematics series for the Australian Curriculum. The ICE-EM Mathematics series was created by the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute (AMSI) to provide a mathematics program that gives students a clear understanding of ideas and concepts. It aims to improve mathematics learning for students with a range of abilities, needs and levels of interest. This new, full-colour series has been rewritten and developed for the Australian mathematics curriculum by AMSI, while retaining the structure, depth and approach of the original titles. The development team has thoroughly reviewed the Australian mathematics curriculum to produce materials that cover all of the required content, as well as provide additional coverage of topics that are relevant and essential for a complete understanding of mathematics.

The clean and focused full-colour layout is engaging without being distracting. The well-received format of two books per year level offers schools a cost-effective solution to resourcing and provides students with a convenient and light-weight maths text option that is easy to carry to and from school. Clear and careful sequential development ensures that the course can be logically taught from the start of Book 1 to the end of Book 2 in each year with minimal teacher preparation. The two books can be completed in the school year. Thorough and accurate coverage of probability and statistics concepts give students a rigourous understanding of this complex topic area.

All exercises throughout the text are technology-neutral, giving teachers the flexibility to choose when to use technologies, such as spreadsheets and calculators, in the classroom. Carefully graded questions, focusing first on building understanding and fluency then on their application, are cross-referenced to worked examples which clearly demonstrate all key problem types. An integrated approach to the proficiency strands within exercises ensures that students are developing multiple proficiencies at once. Challenge exercises at the end of every chapter further develop problem-solving skills and reflect curriculum aims by extending students in depth within a topic, rather than by accelerating content. Extensive chapter reviews cement understanding and ensure students are prepared for future learning. Review and problem-solving chapters at the end of each secondary book revisit every topic covered in the book and covers additional material to interest, enrich and extend students in topics that are not required at that level of the curriculum. The integrated program with Cambridge HOTmaths – Australia’s most comprehensive and engaging interactive online maths teaching, learning and assessment resource – offers the best of textbook and interactive online resources for the Australian Curriculum. Icons in the student text refer to integrated online materials, including widget animations, lesson notes, walk-throughs, graded questions, investigations, topic quizzes, progress reports, an illustrated maths dictionary and Scorcher, a skills-based online competition. Users have instant access to resources for every year level providing additional support for the transition to Secondary school and extension material for advanced students.
