Excerpt from In Memoriam: Poemes de Lord Alfred Tennyson, Traduits en Vers Francais Le tout avait bien failli disparaitre avant que d etre publie. Le petit cahier dont les pages contenaient le seul manuscrit de ces vers fut un jour egare par le poete, et retrouve, par son confrere et ami, Coventry Patmore, dans un tiroir de toilette d'un appartement garni evacue par Tennyson. Enfin, au mois de juin 1850, quatorze ans apres l'achevement de l'oeuvre, In Memoriam parut, en un petit volume de 210 pages. Wordsworth mourait peu de temps apres et Tennyson etait appele a lui succeder comme poete - laureat, principalement, dit-on, grace a l'admiration du prince Albert pour In Memo riam.

La piece qui porte le numero LIX figure pour la premiere fois dans la quatrieme edition, publiee en 1851; celle qui porte le numero XXXIX fut ajoutee plus tard encore.
