Excerpt from Le Menteur: Comedie Pierre corneille was born, an eldest child, on the Sixth of June, 1606, at Rouen, the ancient capital Of Normandy. Both his father and grandfather were lawyers, and held public Office in the provincial administration. He had four Sisters, one of whom was the mother of Fontenelle, and two brothers, of whom the younger, Thomas, born in 1625, achieved well-deserved reputation as a dramatic author.
