The "Battle for the Castle" was nominated for several state awards, the "The Castle in the Attic," a prequel to "The Battle for the Castle," was nominated for twenty-four state awards and won the Dorothy Canfield Fisher Children's Book Award, the California Young Reader's Medal, and was named a Children's Choice by the International Reading Association.

Jane Massey is a children's book illustrator who lives and works in Hove on the South Coast of England. She studied graphic design at Kingston University and worked for several design agencies in London and Hong Kong in addition to illustrating children's books.
