This pack contains 8 copies of each of the 24 titles for Year 4, plus 1 copy of the accompanying teacher resource CD.

About the MainSails series MainSails offers 24 titles for each year level between Years 3-6. Titles are all presented in a magazine-style format and provide specific modelling of text types, including fantasy, mystery, reports, explanations and narratives. Investigations of literary devices are essential for developing students as effective writers with their own writing style. Oral reading and comprehension skills are also nurtured. 'Thinking About The Text' elements are built into each book and encourage students to clarify their understanding of the text by relating it to their own experience (text to self), similar or different books they've read (text to text) and situations that occur in the world (text to world).

A teacher resource CD is available to support MainSails at each year level, containing guide notes and blackline masters.

Pamela Rushby

Pamela Rushby is the author of over 200 books for children and young adults, as well as children's TV scripts, documentaries, short stories and freelance journalism. Pam has been an advertising copywriter, pre-school teacher, and producer of educational television, audio and multimedia.

She has won several awards, including the NSW Premier's Ethel Turner Prize, five CBCA Notable Books – and a bag of gold coins at a film festival in Iran! Pam believes the strangest, most riveting, heart-breaking, laugh-out-loud stories aren't fiction. They're real. They come from history. And she loves tripping over unusual incidents from history – and then writing about them.

Greg Pyers

Greg Pyers grew up in the small Victorian town of Daylesford. As a boy, he read the books of Gerald Durrell, and many years later, worked at Durrell’s famous Jersey Zoo.

Greg became a full-time writer in 1998, following eight years as an educator in zoos, and several years as a post-primary schoolteacher. He went on to write 160 natural history books and three novels for children.

Greg Pyers was short listed in the 2005 Children’s Book Council Awards in the non-fiction category. He won a 2004 Whitley Award from the Royal Zoological Society of NSW for Life in a Rock Pool, Gum Tree, Creek, and Desert Dune.

In The Wilderness Society’s 2002 Environment Award For Children’s Literature, he won a Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding contribution to children’s environmental literature.

In 2005, Greg won another Wilderness Society Award, this time for non-fiction. The Unfortunate Victim is Greg’s first work of adult fiction.
