Matisse Picasso and Gertrude Stein is also known as G. M. P.. Gertrude Stein (1874 - 1946) was an American writer who spent most of her life living in France. She was an influential figure in modern art and literature. Stein became friends with some of the most famous artists of her time and had her portrait painted by Picasso. Gertrude and Leo Stein were very serious art collectors. Matisse and Picasso became part of their social circle, and often visited on Saturday evenings at 27 Rue de Fleurus. Along with G. M.
