The series about the Rats of Nimh are a classic that every child should read. Not only is the text well written, witty and informative, but most importantly it highlights the intelligence of animals as a counterbalance to the arrogance of humans. In particular at this time when rats are being schooled and trained by Belgian NGO 'Apopo' to sniff out mines. The rats are very intelligent and easily trained. They have been send to many African countries and Cambodia where fields are littered with mines after wars that have taken place. They save lives and potential horrific injuries to children and clear fields which are now cultivated (The Guardian 03.04.15).

My 8 year old grandson loved this book. Having read it for his birthday, he now has it at school for silent reading. It is creating interest amongst his classmates so hopefully more of them will read it. Beautifully written book.
