A recently-discovered, long-lost novel and short stories from the 90s featuring private eye Nick Sharman.

Follow Sharman as he patrols his seedily glamorous South London beat, with its cast of villains, eccentrics, misfits and losers. A magnet for trouble, even when he is on holiday in the country, he has a habit of inadvertently ending up on the wrong side of the law and at the wrong end of a shotgun. In this high-risk world, people are seldom what they seem and nothing can be taken for granted.

"The mean streets of South London need their heroes tough. Private eye Nick Sharman fits the bill."
The Telegraph

"Hard-boiled story-telling with attitude."
Daily Mail

"It is possible that South London contains some law abiding citizens in conventional relationships but they make no appearance in Timlin's immoral, wildly enjoyable books."
Times

"A pure pulp vision closer to Spillane than Chandler. The Sharman books are bloody romances of the South London badlands."
John Williams

"Nick Sharman is like black coffee at 4 o'clock in the morning: very black, very bitter."
Derek Raymond

Mark Timlin

In over thirty years as an author, Mark Timlin has written some thirty novels under a number of different names. His nom-de-plumes include Jim Ballantyne, Martin Milk, Tony Williams and Lee Martin for his novels Gangsters' Wives (2007) and Lipstick Killers (2009), which explored the female side of gangland violence. Timlin is best known, however, for his Nick Sharman novels and the 1995 TV spin-off series starring Clive Owen.

Both the violent nature of the Sharman novels, and remarks made by Timlin himself, made the author a figure of controversy and earned him the title of 'the bad boy of crime fiction'. He has since become a prominent critical voice in crime fiction, writing reviews for the Independent on Sunday. Having lived in Docklands for most of his life, Mark Timlin now lives in Newport, South Wales.
