Round and bright, and creamy white, amid the pumpkin patch, a clutch of eggs was sprouting legs. Ready, steady, hatch!

Ten chicks are excited to discover the world outside their eggshells, but the smallest is soon separated from the rest.

Where can she be?

A rollicking adventure about curiosity, camaraderie and, above all, having a play along the way!

    Steady, Hatch!
By Ben Long and illustrated by David Cornish

Newly hatched in the pumpkin patch are 10 chicks who love to play, sing and dance. But when one them gets separated from the marching line, Mother must gather her other nine children and begin to search high and low for number 10. They travel over hills, across fields and even send smoke signals! But don’t fear, things never get too serious in Ready, Steady, Hatch! and to find out its unexpected ending, you’ll just have to read it too!

To entertain himself during his train ride to work, author Ben Long, Tickle Me Zoo and Higgledee Giggledee, taught himself rhyming verse and Ready, Steady, Hatch! comes from that same place of entertainment. Made to read out aloud, or sing along, with its rhyming verse and charming illustrations by David Cornish, I Don’t Want to Eat my Dinner and Grannysauras Rex, Ready, Steady, Hatch! will tickle all your silly senses!
