Michael Turner grew up in a suburb of Liverpool close to the city centre. The triangular hamlet on a hill was not unlike an Island and Victorian terraces graced the Streets within. In scouse tongue and with foul mouths the gang would hold court on the back steps to an old cobbled square, illuminated by a solitary gas lamp. It was a time when Americans would race to the moon. These dead end kids would study the folklore find the adventure and unearth the treasures within their dying neighbourhood.

  • Painted antics

    by on

9781849143004 Michael Turner, Rough and Tumble. This is an interesting story told from a young boy's perspective. Some parts may bring back memories of ones own childhood as the reader can relate to parts of the tale Michael paints. The dialect adds an authentic touch which blends in with the descriptive writing. The reader can easily walk down the street with this little boy while hearing his laughter and watching his antics. If one is looking for an interesting, lighthearted read, Rough and Tumble is a great pick. Renee Robinson, "Cancer Is My Name"
