It's no secret. New York City has a vampire problem. Nor is this a unique problem, endemic to the Big Apple. In the same way that wherever there are people there are rats and roaches and other undesirables, there have been vampires. In fact, many of the rats and roaches and other vermin you think you see scurrying over sidewalks or dashing in between subway tracks are actually vampires shapeshifting into their various animal forms. Dealing with them is not a matter of extermination. That is unrealistic. It is more a matter of reasonable population control. As of late, this age-old problem has escalated to crises. The blister on the foot of humanity, the vampire, has become a gash. Bandaids aren't enough anymore. There is a need for more advanced sutures. What caused the crises? Vampires have evolved. The old methods of vampire control are largely ineffective. Gone are the days where an ambitious farmhand can sharpen a stick and hang some garlic over his neck to tackle a local vampire problem. Killing a vampire is now a specialized field with highly skilled personnel that have needed to evolve alongside that which they hunt.Stokers, the name for those employed in the trade of vampire control, have put their garlic back in the kitchen and left their sticks blunted outside. Modern technology, namely applications accessed via smart phone, are the new weapon of choice, the great equalizer. But equal doesn't mean safe. Stoking remains more dangerous than ever, especially for the most skilled stokers who are tasked with exterminating the most lethal vampires. In New York City, there is no more dangerous assignment than when you are tasked with stoking Safkinsop. That is what a renowned stoker and his apprentice looking to gain notoriety to advance her career are up against. Told in the form of a free-verse poem, with corresponding illustrations inspired by 1930's and 40's black and white cartoons, these Stokers must enter his underground New York City lair and drag him into the daylight. Time is of the essence until prey becomes predator, predator becomes prey.
