New York based photographer Monika Merva has exhibited at many international venues, including the Griffin Museum, Winchester and the The RayKo Photo Center, San Francisco. During several visits since 2002, she photographed everyday life at the 'City of Children', a Hungarian government housing facility for children from dysfunctional and poverty stricken families. Founded in Communist times, when the Hungarian social welfare system emphasized collective solutions to private problems, it is a monument to a bygone era.
