From the author of the phenomenal number one bestseller TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE, comes this enchanting, beautifully written novel that explores a mystery only heaven can unfold.

Eddie is a grizzled war veteran who feels trapped in the toil of his father before him, fixing rides at a seaside amusement park. Then he dies in a tragic accident, trying to save a little girl from a falling cart. He awakens in the afterlife, where he learns that heaven is not a lush Garden of Eden, but a place where your earthly life is explained to you by five people who were in it. These people may have been loved ones or distant strangers. Yet each of them changed your path forever.

As the story builds to its stunning conclusion, Eddie desperately seeks redemption in the still-unknown last act of his life. Was it a heroic success or a devastating failure? The answer is as magical and inspirational as a glimpse of heaven itself.

Too good, had to read it in one sitting.

The story: Eddie was in his 80s and had spent the majority of his life being bitter about working in a fair by the beach like his father before him. This is until the day he dies attempting to save a young girl from a freak accident at the fair. When he reaches heaven, Eddie is told he will meet 5 people who he has touched in his life, and they will explain one by one what his life meant.

I needed this in my life after having kind of a few sucky books in a row. I’ve not cried so hard at a book ending since ‘This Star Won’t Go Out’.

I went into ‘The Five People You Meet in Heaven’ with average expectations. All the reviews I heard said it was good, but not mind blowing. To those people: keep your opinions! I’m a mess of tears and feels! This book, and in particular the last two people in heaven, have changed my life. Ungh.

This story is just a beautiful demonstration of how life does not simply begin and end: everyone’s lives are interconnected and you can change someone’s world without even knowing it.

Instant favourite.
